install on a new server
running IIS. I need to move the reporting services to a new server running
win 2003 w/ IIS. How do I go about installing this on the new server and
keeping the old settings and reports.
thanks
mikeSimulate a Farm installation , then de-activate the first node.
1. Install another Reporting Services on the new server, pointing to the
existing SQL Server repository. When setup is complete, you should see all of
your reports through that server, since the repository (database) is the
same. During the install , you will be taken through a (web farm) setup
screen that is slightly different then a regular stand-alone install. On that
screen you have to specifiy the new server . Do that.
2. after verifiing that you are able to access your reports throught the new
server via the browser, go ahead and de-activate the first node by deleting
rows 2 and 3 from the keys tables in the ReportServer database (the metabase
repository at this point will think it has only one server) , after that
restart the new report server.
3. Take the first RS sever offline. You have successfully performed the
migration.

work with standard).

Install of SQL Server 2000 dev edition over MSDE. Any advice appreciated.
instance of MSDE running on the laptop and ideally i would like SQL
server to be installed and use the current instance and not install
any other additional services. [hope i got my terminology correct
here.] Basically all i would like is to use the Enterprise Manager
with my existing MSDE database. I was wondering if there is anything i
should be doing before I install. Should i shut down the service or
leave it running for instance.
Thanks for any tips,

You could install only the client tools, if that's all you want (don't
forget to install SP3a as well). Or you can install Developer Edition
anyway, as a named instance - you don't have to start it if you don't need
it.

Install issue with Express w/ Advanced Services - AGTACCOUNT
I'm just running the install directly from the executable thats downloaded from the microsoft site and get the following warning which then causes the install to exit (gracefully).
Is this something that needs to be set before installing? I can't find any documentation on it.

I got the same error yesterday, then i removed the old version of .net framework(i installed two version), after that the setup works again.
check if you also have beta or pre-release version of sql server, visual studio, or .net framwork installed on your machine.

What do you recommend I uninstall what components of SQL or .NET framework?

|||HiIm posting this here as its seems to be a common problem that knowbody is answering.
When installing SQL Server Express 2005 from the downloaded file NOT from the command line an error reguarding the agtaccount appears.
This usually happens if the install directories exist on the hard disk from other versions of SQL server.
i.e. The install directories have been copied to the hard disk from the cd/dvd rather than installing off the cd.
also any temp directories created by other SQL installation usually off root a long string of chars and numbers.
i.e. c:\f654e6a76ed87b6df65s
anything like the above must be deleted before the Express edition is installed.
Somehow the Express installation is getting mixed up with install files from other versions.
Hope this helps

Install Help
I am new to Reporting Services and I am having a problem displayingReporting Manager. I am running Win 2003 with IIS 6 and SQL Svr2000 SP3. VS 2003 has been installed and the developmentenvironment works fine.
I cannot get Report Manager to work I try to access the page and I get the following error:
Error
The request failed with HTTP Status 400: Bad Request
Their is a link for Home but when I click on it I get the same message.
When I try to access Report Server using //servername/reportmanager, Iget prompted for a user name and password. I put in thecredentials for a local admin and it brings me to a page that has the servername/reportserver. At the bottom is some versioninformation and that's all there is.
I have researched and tried a variety a solutions like running reactivate and rsconfig to no avail.
IIS is set up with a reports website and 2 virtual dorectories, onepointing to the appropriate folder in the MSSQL folder for reportmanager and report server.
I'm out of idea. If anyone can provide some ways I can troubleshoot, I would appreciate it
Brennan
Did you have the SSL option unchecked while you were installing the RS ? or are you using SSL ?|||The SSL option was unchecked.

|||sorry I am out of ideas too..it was a big hassle for me when I first downloaded Rs and tried to get it work..and I do remember being popped up with username/pwd but I cant remember what xactly I did ..I had to set up forms based authentication so I followedthis article.see if that will help.|||Thanks
Install fails with a "..path specified...is invalid"
it is performing operations on the cluster nodes and then fails with the
message:
"The path specified in a command line argument is invalid:
\\<servername>\admin$\<servername>_MSSQLSERVER.iss "
Any thoughts?
Either the administrative shares have been disabled or you are running under
an account that does not have access to the administrative shares on all
nodes of the cluster.

|||Actually I found the problem in a KB article. I had Terminal Services
installed on two of the nodes. SQL Clustering cannot be installed on a node
or nodes that have terminal services installed. Just thought I would post
that for anyone else how might run across the same problem.

This is probably caused by a corruption in WMI in your Windows Server. Try reinstalling WMI. There's information on how to do this at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/reinstalling_wmi.asp
Michelle
|||That link doesn't go to a working page..?|||Well I can't seem to find the original article but here is a couple of things to try.
Can you run “winmgmt /verifyrepository”? If this returns “ WMI repository is inconsistent” then you will have to rebuild the repository. You can rebuild it using “winmgmt /salvagerepository”.
Michelle
|||Thank you, Michelle.
I am having the same problem trying to install Accounting Express 2007 on my new Vista Ultimate machine.
The machine already has SQL Express loaded. Management Server Express works.
"winmgmt /verifyrepository" runs and says repository is inconsistent...
"winmgmt /salvagerepository" runs and produces:
WMI repository salvage failed

sqlInstall fails on SQL Express (part of setup for Accounting Express 2007)
I am having the same problem as Michael, with the exception that my laptop is running windows XP SP2.
BUT when I look at the SETUP LOG FILE there is NOTHING in it. This is what I get:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.2047.00

OS Version : Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)

Time : Tue Apr 03 19:36:56 2007
(As you can see, there is nothing in the file)
Any ideas what could be wrong?
Thanks
Pedro
Are there any logs created in %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG? How is the installer getting launched?
Thanks,

Michelle
|||Thank you, Michelle.

Install fails on SQL Express (part of setup for Accounting Express 2007)
I am having the same problem as Michael, with the exception that my laptop is running windows XP SP2.
BUT when I look at the SETUP LOG FILE there is NOTHING in it. This is what I get:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.2047.00

(As you can see, there is nothing in the file)
Any ideas what could be wrong?

Are there any logs created in %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG? How is the installer getting launched?

Install Error with Sept CTP
I am running into install error when prompted "PLEASE INSERT DISC
2" when I am installing with virtual drive using Daemon Tools instead of from
CD or DVD. I am a Universal MSDN Download Subscriber, but apparently MSDN don't support install issue with beta version of their product. I am stuck with not able to use this app, and any help is much appreciated.
Sincerely, Disk1: en_SQL2005_DEV_Servers_Sept2005.iso You need both of them.|||Great! I did not know Tools ISO would also be needed together with the Server ISO. Typically installation uses one ISO, and Server contains all necessary components. Was that mentioned in MSDN that Tools is also required? This has caused considerable confusion. Thanks for your assistance!
-Lawrence
Lawrence, A possible problem is that you didn't notice that some builds of Sept CTP come as two separate images - Server and Tools. I assume you downloaded Server only. Andrew Watt MVP - InfoPath

Install Error 1603
I am trying to install reporting services enterprise edition onto server
running
WIN 2003 with SQL server 2000.
I am installing it without VS.NET installed and
The .Net Framework has been installed
I have looked at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=867872 but I still get
the same error.
I even reinstalled the IIS 6.0. ASP.NET 1.1.4322 is registered with IIS.
I have changed the SQL Server instance used to host the report server
database to Local.
I have been busy installing it at a client for 2 days now.
I have a local version that installed without giving any problems.
Can someone please tell me how to get it installed?Hi,
I had this problem already with one of our customers. Their IT department
did a really closed installation of a Windows 2003 Standard web server.
Now the solution which worked for me:
1. Take a look on the services: COM+ Event System -> enable and run it!
2. Open Administrative Tools->Component Services
- Navigate to Component Services->Computers->My Computer and right click on it
- On tab COM security add IWAM_MACHINE and IUSR_MACHINE to [Access
Permissions] and [Default Launch Permission] by clicking on Edit Defaults...
Now hopefully it should work!

Install enterprise manager on 64 bit server
version of sql server, running on windows 2003 server?
Thanks,
JeffI'm pretty certain that there is code in there that doesn't run on 64 bit,
hence why MS removed the client tools from the install in the first place.

Installation and Manage MSDE
verison for MSDE. But I could not install it successfully. According to
some articles I know that there would have problem to install MSDE on
Chinese Version (Hongkong) Windows XP. Could someone help to tell me any
solution for this issue.
And, can I use the Enterprises manager to manage the MSDE? And how can I
know any MSDE is running on the PC?
Many Thanks!!!!!

try changing your Windows collation before installing MSDE to one of the
"supported" SQL Server Windows collations

you are not allowed to use Enterprise Manager, Query Analyzer and so on, on
MSDE solutions... you have to rely on home built tools or third party
solutions... please have a look at
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/msde/partners/default.asp ,
http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2442 for some of them, both free and
commercial... google for further..
in order to know if you are connected to MSDE instances, you can query for
SET NOCOUNT ON
SELECT SERVERPROPERTY( 'Edition' ) AS [Edition]
which returns, for MSDE,
Edition
Desktop Engine

Server.
I am running Windows XP Pro and ASP.NET is running on the web server. I
checked few times to make sure that root is running 1.1 version of ASP.NET
( have other versions on my machine also 1.0 and 2.0)
So after I ignored the warning (since I can't do about it anything anyway )
I installed the Reporting Services
From VS.NET I am trying to create new project for Reporting services and I
get "There is an error in XML document (0,0)"
So what's now'
I would appreciate the help. I need it get it running ASAP
Thanks,
Shimon.Reporting Services is not compatible with the 2.0 version of the .NET
framework. I would delete the later version.

Install 2000 Reporting Services on SQL server 2005
Can you install SQL 2000 Reporting Services on a Windows Server 2003
box running SQL 2005 server?
Thanks for any help.I think you're going to run into problems with this.
If memory serves me correctly, SQL 2005 has RS built into it already.
You will need a copy of VS.net 2005 to develop your reports.
Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.

install to use a SQL Server 2000 database but I do not believe RS 2000 can
install to use a SQL Server 2005 database.
You DO NOT need a copy of VS 2005. RS 2005 ships with a version of VS to
prevent the need to purchase it (with 2000 you had to purchase VS 2003).
Here is a question for the original poster. Why do you want to do this. RS
2005 is significantly better than RS 2000 (faster, end user sorting,
multi-select parameters, date picker, etc). If you have SQL Server 2005 then
you have the license for RS 2005.

Thanks for replying, it isn't actually me that wants to so this, its a
job that has been logged with us. I am not really familiar with MS SQL
products so apologies if this was a stupid question. I do however have
another question; do you get RS 2005 with all versions of SQL Server
2005 and is it installed by default when you install SQL Server 2005?|||No, you have to install it. It is on the install media but is not installed
automatically. Just like some of the other items in the suite of product
(analysis server for instance). Plus, you have to have IIS installed and
configured prior to install RS.
You can install RS 2005 only from the media and use SQL 2000 as its
metadata/object store. MS specifically allowed this because people are slow
to upgrade databases and they wanted to allow faster rollout of RS. You do
need a SQL Server 2005 license on any box running RS 2005.
You can also install RS on a box separate from the DB server (but you need a
SQL Server license on any box running RS).
