Install RS Report Server without VS .Net
Visual Studio. Can it be done ? Because the installer always check for Visual
Studio .Net in the beginning. ThanksYour machine needs to have MS .NET Framework version 1.1 installed, IIS
configured to run ASP.NET, MDAC 2.6 or higher and be able to connect to an
instance of SQL 2000 or even MSDE.
You can find all this info @.

Ignore the warning and continue with the installation. RS will be installed.
Only the report builder needs Visual Studio.

Install Report Designer without SQL-Server-DBMS
I would like to design Reporting Services-reports with Visual Studio .NET
2003 by using the Reporting Services Report Designer. VS 2003 .NET is
installed on my local machine (OS=Win XP Prof.) and the Report Server I want
to use is an already running Reporting Services installation (SQL Server
2000) which is available through the network. My question is: how can I
install the Report Designer on my local machine without installing the whole
SQL-Server DBMS?
Thanks in advance & kind regards
ChristianSelect only the design components when you install to your workstation.

Am I running the wrong Setup? Is there a separate setup for the designer?

Install Report Designer on another workstation
prefer to use VB .NET on a Windows 2000 workstation as
Report Designer.
We would like to know what component of Reporting Services
has to be installed on that Windows 2000 workstation after
installing VB.NET ?
ThanksJust run the SQL-RS setup again on your workstation, and select from
reporting services only the client tools. Also run Sp1 or 2 on the client
computer. I got a similar setup as I dont prefer to devolop on the server.

Install or uninstall .NET Framework 2.0
I want to instal Sql Server express, problem is
On this link http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/ , they say
you must uninstall any previous versions of ... and the .NET Framework 2.0.
Yet here on step two in the instruction section in this link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=220549b5-0b07-4448-8848-dcc397514b41&displaylang=en
they say I should install it
Where is the truth!
First, if you have a prerelease build of .Net Framework 2.0 installed on your machine you need to uninstall it. There is no way around this.
Second, in order to install SQL Server Express, you need to first install the released version of .Net Framework.
So yes, you need to uninstall and then install to install SQL Server Express. The key information is you're uninstalling prerelease builds and installing the final release build.
I hope this clears up the confusion.
Cheers,
Dan

Install MSDE without Microsoft .NET Framework
I want to include MSDE in my apps installation.
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000)
Deployment Toolkit (Release Candidate) from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
I have looked into the deployment toolkit which need Microsoft .NET
Framework.
But my client does not want to install the .NET Framework.
How can I do it?
Many thanks
Ken
You have two options if you can't use the loader:
1) Create your own loader using a non-managed language (C++, Delphi, VB6).
2) You can purchase a third party installation package

Install is giving an error
Says I need iis or iis is not configured correctly...
I have asp.net 2.0 beta 2 installed on it and I have .net framework 1.1 as well
anyone have this issue.
I am suing server 2003 and have removed the file server role without success
thanks
Explanation: internet information services (IIS) or later is either not installed , or it is configured in a way that is incompatible with a reporting services installation.
Action: To install the Report Server and Report Manager components, you must first install Internet Information Services 5.0 (IIS) or later, and then verify that the web server configuration requirements are compatible with the setup. Check the serup documentation for more information about the web server configuration requirementst.
------------
The web server has IIS 6 and is a2003 server box. COnfigured as a web server not as a file server.
I am in awe , don't really know what else to do....I am running the services with the correct accounts....Machine has 2.0 and 1.1 on it.

jwbutler,
I do not know, but I have would ask: Is your SQL Express engine still
running when you apply SP2?
The error reported is one that SQL Server throws when SELECTing with NOLOCK
and the data is deleted during a narrow window of time, as described here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/815008. Could that be happening to you? If
so, shut down SQL Express and try the update.

So what's now'
I would appreciate the help. I need it get it running ASAP

I'm trying install the evalution version of Reportingservices, but I recieve
an error message that says that I must register ASP.NET 1.1 on my web server.
What shall I do?I think that just means you need to run aspnet_regiis -i from a command prompt.

Message posted via http://www.sqlmonster.com|||This is from reporting services books online.
To register ASP.NET 1.1.4322, follow these steps:
From a command prompt, run
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_regiis.exe -i
Give the accounts <Computername>\ASPNET and Network Service (for Windows
Server 2003 systems only) read-write permission to two folders:
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\Temporary ASP.NET Files
C:\WINDOWS\Temp
Re-run setup.
During setup, clear the Use Secure Socket Layer checkbox (if you do not have
a certificate for your Web server)
Hope this helps.

Inserting values Using Stored Procedure
Iam working in asp.net in Visual Studio 2005. I tried to insert some datas from the webform's interfaces into the SQL Server 05 database using a stored procedure. Since iam new to asp.net,im confused wheather to use any command or anything else ? Kindly Help me !You can either directly execute the text command or can execute the same through a procedure.For that u need to write stored procedure in database. If you know that then go for it. But for that u need some extra coding in the front end. But performance wise using a stored procedure is better.|||

Inserting values in a datetime field
I have a datetime column in a table on the SQL database. I need to insert
values into the datetime column from vb.net code. Here is my code:
dim nameval, str, qry as string
nameval = "abc"
str = "2005/03/16 14:20"
qry = "insert into tab1(name,dateval) values(" & "'" & nameval & "'," & "'"
str & "')"
...
..
ocmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
...
...
The error message that I get is as follows:
"The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an
out-of-range datetime value. The statement has been terminated. .Net
SqlClient Data Provider"
The problem I think is due to passing a string for a datetime field. My
question is, if I convert the string to datetype using CDate(str), then I
would have to again convert the date to string in order to form the insert
statement. So, the ultimate result will be again passing a string for the
datetime field!
I know that this is a simple syntax problem, which I don't seem to get right
!
Would anybody be able to give me insert statement for the above?
Thanks.

inserting the date into SQL Server problem
The error that asp.net throws is:
"The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value. The statement has been terminated. "
In my page, im setting the date as follows:
Dim strDate as Date
strDate = now()
Then in my page I call a function called "do_store"
This works fin putting my variables into my database until I tried adding the date to the statement. Here is my function. Can anyone see my problem?
Public Function do_store(ByVal strTestID As String, ByVal strUserName As String, ByVal strUserID As String, ByVal strWrong As String, ByVal strRight As String, ByVal strAnswers As String, ByVal strDate As Date)
Dim strSQL As String
Dim sConn As String
Dim oConn As SqlConnection
'do the insert into the database
strSQL = "insert into test_results (test_plan_id, user_name, user_id, questions_wrong, questions_right, questions_answered, date_time) values (" & strTestID & ", '" & strUserName & "', " & strUserID & ", " & strWrong & ", " & strRight & ", " & strAnswers & ", '" & strDate & "')"
sConn = ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("ConnectionString")
oConn = New SqlConnection(sConn)
Dim myCommand As SqlCommand
myCommand = New SqlCommand(strSQL, oConn)
myCommand.Connection.Open()
myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
End Function::Im having problems inserting the current date into SQL server from my ASP.net
::application.
::
::The error that asp.net throws is:
::
::"The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range
::datetime value. The statement has been terminated. "
* Your datetime formates between the server and your process dont match.
Means: your server expects (for example) YMD, and you deliver YDM. Result: the date gets interpreted as month, and this can result in you "entering" month values from 13-31, which ARE out of range.
You need to make sure that the string you create actually is what the SQL Server expects.
BTW - if this is for a website, your code is insecure and very sucesseptable to a SQL INJECTION ATTACK.
Please read up the fundamental basics of SQL security - do it now.|||How do I check what format SQL Server wants?
how can I format the date so it fits into SQL server?
I got it all running locally (SQL Server and VS.NET) so Presumed their locale setting would be the same.
Im only building this as an intranet so its not open to the big bad world.|||This is explained in the SQL Server oducmentaiton. Actually you should not care - you should ALAWYS insert datetimes as ISO form, country independant. The correct way to insert this is:
return String.Format ("'{0:yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss}'", Value);
At least this is what our EntityBroker O/R mapping framework uses, and it works so far.
The documentation of SQL Server has more information on this.

inserting NULL into Datetime and int
I have an asp.net page with different textboxes that put text into an sql database.
When I try to leave the textboxes blank that correspond with datatypes of int and datetime
in sql server it gives an error : I need to fill in these textboxes.
How can I solve this problem so I can leave the boxes blanc? What is the best sollution for this? I know I can set the types to String but then the user could fill in what he wants :)
Could you give me some advice on this please? All ideas are welcome.
Thanks !if you strictly want to enforce the user to enter the proper data and not mess up the system, use customvalidators for the textboxes.
for date, you can prbly have three textboxes for month, yr and day and validate it to numeric and when you add the values to db, concatenate them with a "/" in between.
or if the user leaves it blank, check if the txtDate.text = "" then use system.dbnull to enter null into the db.
HTH.|||Hey thanks ndinakar :)
Ok I've looked in the .net classes for this dbnull. There's no good example of how to do that.
Do I use this dbnull on the page script or in the database (for example in a stored procedure?)
Could you give an example please?(I'm very noob)
Thanks again for replying !
