Install RS 2000 with SQL 2005

Hello,
i want to install Reporting Services 2000 with SQL 2005 Express Edition. Is
this possible? Any problems?
THX
Andre ScheiberleBooks On LIne says that this functionality will be added to SQL Express soon
( the doc was dated Nov 7 2005.) However, if it is on your CD already - go
for it...I don't think you'll get Report Builder however

The installation and configuration works (tricky), but now I have a
Web-Application developed in .Net 2.0. Is it possible to configure RS 2000 to
run with .Net 2.0?

run .NET 2.0 websites side-by-side with .NET 1.1 or 1.0 websites
without any problem. To do this, you can use the "aspnet_regiis.exe"
utility to switch the sites to the correct .NET version of ASP.NET.
For example, if you have both v1.1 and v2.0 installed on your server,
but all websites are setup as v2.0 (since its installation updates the
ASP.NET settings)
You could do the following to reset the SRS websites to the v1.1
version of ASP.NET:
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_regiis.exe -s
W3SVC/1/ROOT/ReportServer
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_regiis.exe -s
W3SVC/1/ROOT/Reports

Install Report Designer (RS 2000) on VS2005 Express?

Does anyone know if it's possible to install the Report Designer component of Reporting Services 2000 on one the Visusal Studio Express versions? My client is running SQL Server 2000 in production, and wants to evaluate Reporting Services for an upcoming project. However, they aren't currently running any version of Visual Studio 2003. I know we can buy VB.Net 2003 and then install the report designer on that machine, but they'd like to get buy as cheaply as possible (like, free); hence the interest in using VS Express.
They don't want to commit to SQL Server 2005 or I'd suggest they install the CTP on a development machine and play with Reporting Services 2005.
Thanks,

Install regular SQL Server Management Studio over SQL Server Mangement Studio Express (SSMSE)

I installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition with the SQL Server Mangement Studio Express (SSMSE) on my work laptop. When I tried to manage the SQL Server 2005 instances on our servers, I couldn't expand/drill down on the DB Maintenance Plan. This prompted me to find out that this may be one of the features that are lacking in the "Express" version of the SSMS. Therefore I'm in the process of finding a way to 'upgrade' my SSMSE to regular SSMS.

I popped the installation disc of "SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition" and there are client tools/components that I can install which I believe SSMS (Management Studio) is part of it. However when I clicked through the wizard I was told that all the components are already installed and the wizard couldn't go any further.

Is there a way for me to install a regular version of SSMS over my existing SSMSE? Do I have to remove SSMSE first?

Please advise,

Thanks.

The easy thing to do is to remove SSMSE first -as you questioned. Then install SSMS.|||Tip: If you have installed SSMS and then no need to install SSMSE as you can manage Express edition with SSMS alone.|||

Maintenance plans require SQL Agent to be installed on the server machine. SQL Agent doesn't come with SQL Server Express so Management Studio doesn't show maintenance plans when connected to a SQL Server Express server. If you connect to Developer, Workgroup, Standard or Enterprise, you'll see the Maintenance plans folder for those server types in regular SSMS.

Hope this helps,
Steve

Install problem

I am having a problem installing SQL express. I have 2.0 framework installed as well as the other express software. I also have Visual Studio 2003 installed. Do I need to uninstall other version of Visual Studio? Do I need to uninstall other versions of SQL. I get an error but it does not tell me what the problem is.

Thank you

Dee

Also can we somehow add the icons for the install to our desktop, if so how?

Dee

|||Take a look at the following file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Summary.txt. It should have information regarding the failure with a pointer to the full log file. When you find the full error log file you'll want to open it and search for "Value 3" (I know not very intuitive but that's the way Windows Installer logs errors). Install or uninstall .NET Framework 2.0

I want to instal Sql Server express, problem is

On this link http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/ , they say
you must uninstall any previous versions of ... and the .NET Framework 2.0.
Yet here on step two in the instruction section in this link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=220549b5-0b07-4448-8848-dcc397514b41&displaylang=en
they say I should install it

Where is the truth!

First, if you have a prerelease build of .Net Framework 2.0 installed on your machine you need to uninstall it. There is no way around this.

Second, in order to install SQL Server Express, you need to first install the released version of .Net Framework.

So yes, you need to uninstall and then install to install SQL Server Express. The key information is you're uninstalling prerelease builds and installing the final release build.

I hope this clears up the confusion.

Cheers,

Is there a way to install SQL 2005 Express on a different drive? The server that I want to use has 700MB availible on the C drive and 80 GB availible on the D drive. can I install SQL and all tools on the D drive?

hi,

when running the setup in "wizard" mode, uncheck the "hide advanced configuration options" check box..
in the "Features selection" wizard task, modify via the "browse" button the drive/folder locations of the "Database Services" and "Data Files" as required..

if you are running setup in "command" mode, provide the INSTALLSQLDIR and INSTALLSQLDATADIR parameters accordingly to your needs..

|||

Will this work with the tools? When we installed the tools on a different machine, it did not give us an option. I was able to get SQL on the other drive.

Thanks

hi,

the "tools", SQL Server Management Express does not seems to provide this feature as well... but, if you install SQL Server Express with Advanced Services, which includes SSMSE, you should be able to designate an alternate location for it as well..
please consider that a "minimal" part of the binaries, the "shared" one, that's to say the part of the binaries shared among all instances will be installed in the \Program Files\ hyerarchy...

Install of SQL express edition with vs2005 pro

I was able to install and use the vs 2005 for the first time today, and it was so far, so good!

However, I would like to know more about how it setup my SQL 2005 Express edition when I installed the full package of vs2005. What I would like to specifically know -- if the instance is using my Windows Authentication, or what the "sa" password might be.

When installing vs2005, it automatically installed SQL Express 2005, without prompting me for setup options on the sql part. Soooo, does is use windows authentication automatically, or some type of default "sa" password.

Very curious to know...

I'm pretty sure that by default it gets installed using Windows Authentication mode, so SA is disabled.

install of express 200 advanced sp1 fails

Had intial release installed; deleted it and associated software, and downloaded advanced, sp1 and mgmt. studio sp1.

Go to install and get just warnings(2-IIS and hardware);install goes on

then fails; look at log and it says my system doesn't meet minimum

hardware requirements.

Look at hardware requirements on readme and at MS and my system DOES

meet 'minumum reuquirements'; he only thing close is the 512 mb minimum

memory which is what my system has, 512mb memory.

1.7 P4, 30 gig of hard drive space,.net2.0,win2k with SP4,etc..

Anyone know what a workaround is or is this a 'bug'?

Take a looks at the setup logs (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG) for starters. See if there is additional information available there.

Install issue with Express w/ Advanced Services - AGTACCOUNT

I'm just running the install directly from the executable thats downloaded from the microsoft site and get the following warning which then causes the install to exit (gracefully).

Is this something that needs to be set before installing? I can't find any documentation on it.

Hallo,

I got the same error yesterday, then i removed the old version of .net framework(i installed two version), after that the setup works again.

check if you also have beta or pre-release version of sql server, visual studio, or .net framwork installed on your machine.

anyway, this is quit a strange error message for me.

Good luck

|||

I just got the same error and i have not installed any beta version of any software I was trying to get new installation for my development server.

What do you recommend I uninstall what components of SQL or .NET framework?

|||Hi

Im posting this here as its seems to be a common problem that knowbody is answering.

When installing SQL Server Express 2005 from the downloaded file NOT from the command line an error reguarding the agtaccount appears.

This usually happens if the install directories exist on the hard disk from other versions of SQL server.

i.e. The install directories have been copied to the hard disk from the cd/dvd rather than installing off the cd.

also any temp directories created by other SQL installation usually off root a long string of chars and numbers.

i.e. c:\f654e6a76ed87b6df65s

anything like the above must be deleted before the Express edition is installed.

Somehow the Express installation is getting mixed up with install files from other versions.

Hope this helps

Install issue for Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 and SQL Express

Hi,

We try to install Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 and get installation failed without any error. It simply refers to the log file. I have posted below the last 40 lines of this huge log file. The information in there are not vary help full since it refers to error codes that nobody seem to be able to explain. Now this is happening on 3 brand new dell computers running XP Pro. I would be happy for any assistance to either explain the error coded (if any MS guy is monitoring this) or maybe someone had a similar problem and could let me know some options on what I could try to get this resolved and my program installed.

Thank you all very much for assisting me.

This is probably caused by a corruption in WMI in your Windows Server. Try reinstalling WMI. There's information on how to do this at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/reinstalling_wmi.asp

Michelle

|||That link doesn't go to a working page..?|||

Well I can't seem to find the original article but here is a couple of things to try.

Can you run “winmgmt /verifyrepository”? If this returns “ WMI repository is inconsistent” then you will have to rebuild the repository. You can rebuild it using “winmgmt /salvagerepository”.

Michelle

|||

Thank you, Michelle.

I am having the same problem trying to install Accounting Express 2007 on my new Vista Ultimate machine.

The machine already has SQL Express loaded. Management Server Express works.

"winmgmt /verifyrepository" runs and says repository is inconsistent...

"winmgmt /salvagerepository" runs and produces:

WMI repository salvage failed
Error code: 0x8007041B
Facility: Win32
Description: A stop control has been sent to a service that other running services are dependent on.

Any thoughts?|||

Check out the following post it has a solution.

Install fails on SQL Express (part of setup for Accounting Express 2007)

I am having the same problem as Michael, with the exception that my laptop is running windows XP SP2.

BUT when I look at the SETUP LOG FILE there is NOTHING in it. This is what I get:

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.2047.00

OS Version : Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)

Time : Tue Apr 03 19:36:56 2007

(As you can see, there is nothing in the file)

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks

Pedro

Are there any logs created in %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG? How is the installer getting launched?

Thanks,
