Install 2000 Reporting Services on SQL server 2005

Hello,
Can you install SQL 2000 Reporting Services on a Windows Server 2003
box running SQL 2005 server?
Thanks for any help.I think you're going to run into problems with this.
If memory serves me correctly, SQL 2005 has RS built into it already.
You will need a copy of VS.net 2005 to develop your reports.
Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.

install to use a SQL Server 2000 database but I do not believe RS 2000 can
install to use a SQL Server 2005 database.
You DO NOT need a copy of VS 2005. RS 2005 ships with a version of VS to
prevent the need to purchase it (with 2000 you had to purchase VS 2003).
Here is a question for the original poster. Why do you want to do this. RS
2005 is significantly better than RS 2000 (faster, end user sorting,
multi-select parameters, date picker, etc). If you have SQL Server 2005 then
you have the license for RS 2005.

2000? I thought it was part of the SQL2005 installation.|||Bruce L-C [MVP] wrote:

Thanks for replying, it isn't actually me that wants to so this, its a
job that has been logged with us. I am not really familiar with MS SQL
products so apologies if this was a stupid question. I do however have
another question; do you get RS 2005 with all versions of SQL Server
2005 and is it installed by default when you install SQL Server 2005?|||No, you have to install it. It is on the install media but is not installed
automatically. Just like some of the other items in the suite of product
(analysis server for instance). Plus, you have to have IIS installed and
configured prior to install RS.
You can install RS 2005 only from the media and use SQL 2000 as its
metadata/object store. MS specifically allowed this because people are slow
to upgrade databases and they wanted to allow faster rollout of RS. You do
need a SQL Server 2005 license on any box running RS 2005.
You can also install RS on a box separate from the DB server (but you need a
SQL Server license on any box running RS).
