Install server2005 in LDAP machine problem: Found the problem and the solution

Hi all,

I installed June CTP on server with (already) SQL 2000 and LDAP (the idea is to check if 2005 and 2000 are good friends).
after installation I start to retrieve Errors from the LDAP: "Automation error The authentication mechanism is unknown." (error 2147016662)
Tongue Tied

more info about the proccess that failed:
ASP file (IIS5) create object (mine dll).
mine dll try to connect LDAP and retrieve data from user.

The proccess fail when it try to connect the LDAP (I debug it).

more then it: when I create the dll from VB6, every thing gone great.

Any Idea?Just to let you know:

The problem was COM+ issue.
Some how the installation couse my COM+ application to stop working (or work with limited security owner).

I build new COM+ Application, moved all my dlls to the new one, and it work.

Install rolls back

Hi NG,
I have a installation problem on MSDE and install to window 2000
MSI (s) (34:FC): MainEngineThread is returning 1603
MSI (c) (54:58): Back from server. Return value: 1603
MSI (c) (54:58): Decrementing counter to disable shutdown. If counter >= 0,
shutdown will be denied. Counter after decrement: -1
Aktion beendet um 10:57:35: INSTALL. Rckgabewert 3.
MSI (c) (54:58): Note: 1: 2262 2: Control 3: -2147287038
then rolling back.
Does anyone experienced the same problem?
Thank you very much for any suggestion.
Regards
Roland
Hi
Try running the install with verbose logging switched on:
setup.exe /L*v <Setup Log File Path>
You may get a better error that describes the problem.

install replication components on cluster

Hi,
At the SQL Server cluster installation time I haven't choose the replication component(wasn't required at that time). Now it is and when I run again the setup to modify the installation and to add the replication components it doesn't give me that option.
The only option that I have is to uninstall the SQL Server.
Is it what is suppose to be? If yes how can I install the replication components?
Cata,
replication isn't enabled from the setup. If you use EM, and go to tools,
replication, configure publishing... you can set it up there.
Regards,
Paul Ibison
|||Thanks for your replay.
At the setup time when you install the SQL Server one is
asked if he wants to install the Replication components -
so there are some components that have to be installed. I
haven't choose that option.
Additionally when I am choosing to configure replication
EM - Tools - Cofigure Publishing, I get the message "The
Replication components were not included when SQL Server
was installed on <server>"

|||My apologies - I had selected this checkbox without thinking when I installed, which was a while ago. I'm out of the office for a while but if no-one else answers in the next few days then I'll try on a test cluster I have built back at work. I suspect yo
u'll have to break the cluster then add the components, but I'll have a look.

Hi All,
I posted before a question about an installation problem and the reply was
to get the verbose log file. I've done that so here is the section around
the error. I've added some spaces after the error to make it easier to find.
Thanks in advance.

I solved the problem, File and Print Sharing needs to be installed for the
MSDE install to work. Obvious huh? ;-)

Install Problem...Please Help!

Exactly the same problem here, on a W2K machine.
The event log provides me with: "Product: Microsoft SQL
Server Desktop Engine -- Installation operation failed.".
In close proximity to these error messages, I can see
some "LoadPerf" error messages and warnings. Seem these
messages are related.
Cool, another one of these "helpful" error messages.
I thried the 3rd party install and a manual install, but
to no avail.
Any idea, someone?
Best regards, Klaus

running and that File and Print Sharing for Microsoft

greatly appreciated...this is a very important application
we are trying to install. Thanks.

I'am trying to install MSDE Rel A but when installer starts to extract files
to installation folder i get error message saying i don't have enough space
on hard disk.
Disk is 40GB anf there's 28GB free space left...

Try running CHKDSK on the drive you are having the problem with. Also, what
OS and file system are you running?

Install MSDE without Microsoft .NET Framework

Hi
I want to include MSDE in my apps installation.
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000)
Deployment Toolkit (Release Candidate) from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
I have looked into the deployment toolkit which need Microsoft .NET
Framework.
But my client does not want to install the .NET Framework.
How can I do it?
Many thanks
Ken
You have two options if you can't use the loader:
1) Create your own loader using a non-managed language (C++, Delphi, VB6).
2) You can purchase a third party installation package

Install MSDE need XP disc

I have been installing MSDE2000 on several XP machines. Couple of them asked
for XP installation disc during the installation of MSDE. Others didn't.
Does anyone know why sometimes the installation of MSDE need the XP disc?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Otto
There might be requirements for things that weren't set up initially, like
TCP/IP/network support, MDAC, etc. I'm not sure of all the system
requirements for MSDE but if these installations are not all identical there
will likely be some required items missing...

Install issue for Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 and SQL Express

Hi,

We try to install Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 and get installation failed without any error. It simply refers to the log file. I have posted below the last 40 lines of this huge log file. The information in there are not vary help full since it refers to error codes that nobody seem to be able to explain. Now this is happening on 3 brand new dell computers running XP Pro. I would be happy for any assistance to either explain the error coded (if any MS guy is monitoring this) or maybe someone had a similar problem and could let me know some options on what I could try to get this resolved and my program installed.

Thank you all very much for assisting me.

Install Issue - "IIS is either not installed or not configured for a server component inst

I'm getting this error:
"IIS is either not installed or not configured for a server component
installation"
when attempting to install Reporting Services on W2K Server SP4
Configuration details:
Windows Server 2000 5.00.2195 SP4
IIS is installed (Control Panel Add/Remove components confirms this)
Default web site is present
Default server IWAM account is active
Default web site IP is mapped to (All Unassigned)
The web server is functional, as it is hosting another .Net web application
already.
I can't seem to find any useful info on this error on the web.
Any suggestions appreciatedFYI in case anyone else encounters this problem:
Something in the configuration of the existing default web site (don't know
specifically what) was preventing setup from recognizing the IIS install.
To work around this problem I disabled the existing default web site, and
created a new one with all the defaults set.

This is probably caused by a corruption in WMI in your Windows Server. Try reinstalling WMI. There's information on how to do this at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/reinstalling_wmi.asp

Michelle

|||That link doesn't go to a working page..?|||

Well I can't seem to find the original article but here is a couple of things to try.

Can you run “winmgmt /verifyrepository”? If this returns “ WMI repository is inconsistent” then you will have to rebuild the repository. You can rebuild it using “winmgmt /salvagerepository”.

Michelle

|||

Thank you, Michelle.

I am having the same problem trying to install Accounting Express 2007 on my new Vista Ultimate machine.

The machine already has SQL Express loaded. Management Server Express works.

"winmgmt /verifyrepository" runs and says repository is inconsistent...

"winmgmt /salvagerepository" runs and produces:

WMI repository salvage failed
Error code: 0x8007041B
Facility: Win32
Description: A stop control has been sent to a service that other running services are dependent on.

Any thoughts?|||

Check out the following post it has a solution.

This is probably caused by a corruption in WMI in your Windows Server. Try reinstalling WMI. There's information on how to do this at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/reinstalling_wmi.asp

Well I can't seem to find the original article but here is a couple of things to try.

Can you run “winmgmt /verifyrepository”? If this returns “ WMI repository is inconsistent” then you will have to rebuild the repository. You can rebuild it using “winmgmt /salvagerepository”.

Any thoughts?|||

Check out the following post it has a solution.

Install fails

sql server 2000 sp4 installation fails on windows server 2003 standard
edition with error "Sql server 2000 is not installed on this machine. Setup
will now exit." Trying to install on a vmware server. Have bounced the server
and retried without success. Any ideas?

Do you have any problems with the SQL Server on that machine? Like
connection problems, etc.
