Install rolls back
I have a installation problem on MSDE and install to window 2000
MSI (s) (34:FC): MainEngineThread is returning 1603
MSI (c) (54:58): Back from server. Return value: 1603
MSI (c) (54:58): Decrementing counter to disable shutdown. If counter >= 0,
shutdown will be denied. Counter after decrement: -1
Aktion beendet um 10:57:35: INSTALL. Rckgabewert 3.
MSI (c) (54:58): Note: 1: 2262 2: Control 3: -2147287038
then rolling back.
Does anyone experienced the same problem?
Thank you very much for any suggestion.
Regards
Roland
Hi
Try running the install with verbose logging switched on:
setup.exe /L*v <Setup Log File Path>
You may get a better error that describes the problem.

installation (instance name)
But I reach "install name" window where I am asked: "for a default
installation leave default checked..." and "to install a named instance clear
the default checkbox..." etc.
But the Default checkbox is grayed and I can just install a named instance.
What do I miss? I think it is not a user problem because I tryed with 2
different users (one is Administrator).
thanks in advanced for any feedback.
Hi
If Setup detects an already installed default instance, it will not let you
select the check box.
Maybe you have an instance of MSDE installed.
Look in Control Panel > Services to see if you have MSDE or SQL server
already installed.

|||Correct. After the instance installation I have MSSQLSERVER and
MSSQL$my_instance. I suppose the first service is the engine that somebody
else installed previously... I'll try to remove the engine and start again.
Thanks.

Hi. all
A very basic question. I am new to SQL server. I am installing SQL server 2005
Workgroup eddition on window 2000 advance server. The system summary is following:
[System Summary]
OS Name Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Version 5.0.2195 Service Pack 4 Build 2195
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Type X86-based PC
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 0 AuthenticAMD ~1659 Mhz
BIOS Version Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Windows Directory C:\WINNT
System Directory C:\WINNT\system32
Boot Device \Device\Harddisk0\Partition1
Total Physical Memory 753,136 KB
Available Physical Memory 380,024 KB
Total Virtual Memory 2,548,656 KB
Available Virtual Memory 1,846,432 KB
Page File Space 1,795,520 KB
Page File C:\pagefile.sys
When run set up. SCC always show the warning for the minimun hardware requiremnet not satisfied. Which part of the hardware is not enought for this installation?
THanks
Ceiling
I'm not aware of all the checks that occur during install, but the message is merely a warning. Your machine looks sufficient to run SQL Server.
