Install MS SQL Server 2000 on a MS Server 2003?

Can I install MS SQL Server 2000 on a Microsoft Server 2003 box?
Thanks.yes but it will give you an info msg telling you that you will need sp2 or greater with sql 2000 because win2003 doesnt support sql2k on 2003
this is because of the security updates in the service pack and the higher level of base security in windows 2003
(ms doesnt want to compromise the security benefits of 2003 by allowing an unsecured SQL server to be installed on it. the service pack requires you to assign the sa account a password)

you can acknowledge this statement but dont worry its just info. you will be able to continue with your installation.
but after you finish, should load sp 2 or 3 etc...
i|||Thanks!|||But having said that we do have some pre-requisites for the same. You will have to first install SQL2000. A warning message may come up saying that SQL Server2000 SP2 or lower is not supported on Windows 2003.But thats just a reminder for you to apply SP3a or later.

When you first install SQL it will disable all network libraries except shared memory, preventing remote connections. Applying SP3a will re-enable them.

Make sure its not Win2k3 Web Edition as the only version of SQL allowed on that is MSDE2000 SP3(a).
