install of sql 2005 RS on SQL 2000 machine
Hi,
This should be a quick for you. I am wanting to install SQL 2005 on the same
W2003 Server as SQL 2000. Your newsgroups to date show that this is possible
and that SQL 2005 should be set up as a Named Instance.
My quesion relates to the install of RS2005. When SQL 2005 is setup and I
now want to install RS2005 does it install as an Upgrade option for RS2000? I
do not wish to keep RS2000 so an upgrade is preferable. Or is RS2000 left
alone and must be unistalled separately.
Any experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks.

AlanHi Alan,
Thank you for your posting!
According to the SQL Books online, if you still want to use your SQL 2000
and run it as the default instance, you need to migrate Reporting Services
2000 to Reporting Services 2005. You could not upgrade Reporting Services
2000 directly because this will upgrade the Reporting Services Database and
will force you to upgrade your SQL 2000 instance to SQL 2005.
Here is an article for your reference:
Migrating Reporting Services

Hope this will be helpful!

Install msde with instancename on a W2003 cluster
How can i install the SQL MSDE (sp3a) with a instance name
on a windows 2003 cluster server.
A custumer has a windows 2003 cluster server. When i run
our setup, with parameters like intsance=myprogram, the
software installs normaly on the server. Our client
software louks voor
%Server%\%InstanceName% across the network.
The software don't see the instance name.
Thanks.
Sounds like it is installing correctly. There is nothing special about
installing MSDE on a node of a cluster. Can you use OSQL on the server you
installed MSDE on to connect to the SQL Server? Have you used svrnetcn.exe
to enable the protocols for MSDE? Have you applied SP3 to the MSDE
installation? TCP/IP is not available on Windows 2003 until SP3 is
installed on any version of SQL Server 2000.

|||Yes, the software installs correctly. (I don't see event
in the logs)
We used msde 2000 with sp3.
Yes i have used the svrnetcn.exe to configure the tcp/ip
protocol, set port to 1433.
I haven't used Osql to test the connection.
I test with the sql enterprice manager, to connect the
msde on the 2003 server. This don't work.
When i install the same msde software on a nomal Windows
2003 server everything works fine.
What else can i do?
What can there be wrong?
Thanks for your reply.

Installation and Localisation
hello,
we have RS installed on a W2003 production Server without VS (no design) .
This version is a french version , we also install SP1 french version
Everything seems ok and we got a french version ( we are making call of
reports via URL in an aspx page) .
Times to times, and there is our problem, the french version become an
English version ("View Report" in the Toolbar instead of "Afficher le
rapport".)
If we re-install the SP1 we get the french version .
Please help , we have not been able to find any option about this problem
in RS config(s) files
PS: Designing and deployment are made on a developpement W2000 server With
RS and VS in French,
we never swap to English version on this server.
PhilippeThe report server natively supports 9 languages. This is true no matter
what language the install was done in. If your browser settings are set to
French then you will see French if they are set to another supported
language you will see that language.
Supported languages are: Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, English,
French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.

Then if The language supported by RS is browser dependant (we use IE6) , how
RS can change of language with the same browser, which is in French. (the
only language which appears in language option of general setting TAB of IE
properties)
It looks like , RS can not recognise the language and take by default
English language.

I make a new install of french RS SP1
As i explain in my first message , we have now "Afficher le Rapport" in the
Toolbar.
I add English (US) to languages of my IE6 browser and i move this language
in 1st position , i got "View Report" as expected
I move back French in 1st position , i have "Afficher le Rapoort" in
toolbar as Expected.
I try with German (Allemand) it also works properly "Bericht Anzeigen"
Then we can say that RS is working like you explain.
For how long ? (generally one day or two!!)
A solution will be appreciate, it seems to us that rendering to PDF is also
language dependant as we got somme problems with PDF (bad characters) when
language is English

after a reinstall but that it only works for a period of time. We determine
what languages are supported by the language folders we find under the bin
directory for both report manager and report server. Can you verify that
you have 8 language folders under these directories?

1) First go to /localmachine/reportserver and see if this is localized?
2) Restart IIS rather then reinstalling SP1, Does the problem go away?
Also, what is the OS language?
All this said, we have not been able to reproduce this problem and are not
sure what could cause the scenario you are describing. You may need to
contact PSS for better support on this issue.

yours are not showing up at all. Can you start a new thread so we can try

Please check following on the Reporting Service machine:
Windows/temp folder has to have write permission for network service account
and
Windows/Microsoft.NET/framework/v1.1.4322/Temporary ASP .NET Files needs

we have RS installed on a W2003 production Server without VS (no design) .
