install MSDE200A

Hi can you help me with this problem with msde
I have installed MSDE200A and i didn’t gave any password(setup BLANKSAPWD=1).
My configuration code for the connection with msde is:

When i try to connect with the database this error occurs:
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the

Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: SQL Server does not
exist or access denied.

the DataSource value should be '(local)' including the brackets.

Install fails on x64 cluster nodes.

I can't seem to install SQL Server 2005 (x64 version) on an x64 Win2k3 two node cluster.

I get all the way through the configuration and setup fails because it cannot start a task on the remote node. The error message indicates to check the task scheduler log file, which I have and I cannot find any 'errors' in the file.

Google/MSDN/Technet turn up nothing on multiple searches. Has anyone else run into this problem?

My installation account is a local admin on both machines, so is the sql cluster account. For the life of me I cannot figure out what's different for an x64 install vs 32bit....

Fixed the problem...

My account was not authoritative for the "Domain Services" group.

I have the same problem, can would appreciate it if anyone could elaborate on this "Domain Services" group. What do you mean by not "authoratative" for this group?

Installation configuration

I am new to SRS, so bear with me. Can I install SRS on my existing SQL box;
install SRM on my existing web box on a different site; and install VS.NET
with report designer on my desktop?It's just depened only on software and hardware yours PC configuration. There
is not other depenedences. Ofcourse You can instal SRS on your SQL box and
SRM on your web box. VS.NET you can have everywhere you want.

Installation - Surface Area Configuration Error

Hi,
I'm just installing Reporting Services from SQL Server 2005 and I'm
following this document:

Installation went fine from what I can tell and now I'm in the second
section "Configure the Report Server and Create the Remote Database"
In step 3 it asks to verify that Windows integrated security is enabled in
the Surface Area Configuration tool. When I click on that object I get the
following error message:
Argument value was not passed for the argument reporting service URL.
(Microsoft.SqlSac.Public)
I did a Google search and came up with nothing at all so I'm not sure how to
proceed. Has anyone seen this error before and know how to correct it?

If you haven't already, you will want to make sure that both the
Reports and ReportServer virtual directories have been created in IIS
(via: right-clicking My Computer >> select Manage >> Services and
Applications >> Internet Information Services >> Web Sites >> Default
Web Site). Hope this helps.

Hi Enrique,
I checked for the virtual directories as you suggested and they are there.
This is a test server and I happened to shut it down over night and when I
restarted it this morning I no longer have the problem. Must have just
needed a reboot, should have thought of that.
Now, on to the tutorials so I can figure out how to use this system. I have
found the Microsoft tutorials and will work through them but if anyone has
any other suggestions I'd love to hear them. Suggestions on how to learn to
use this system that is. ;-)

Installation

I ama trying to install SQL Server Express 2005, when the setup.exe does an anlysis of the machine configuration it tellme that out of 10 checks one has failed, and that the machine needs tobe rebooted in order to fulfill a requirment from a previous installation, I did this and went to start the installation process again only ot be told that this check failure still exists, unfortunately I cannot progress, has anybody experienced this, I am using Windows XP Hone, with ASP.NET 2.0 installed and Web Dev Express 2005 Beta 2

I am sorry about the experience but since you have installed the Visual Web developer try this link and download the evaluation edition of SQL Server 2000 and yes if you choose the personnal edition during installation you can install it on WinXP home. Hope this helps.

Install

I just installed sql server 2005 express and everything seemed to go well. However I only see the configuration tools under program files in the start menu.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd suggest that you start using SQL Express! (Sorry, had to do it.)

SQL Express only includes the database engine and the configuration tools, so you're seeing exactly what you should. You can work with the engine using a number of different tools, here are a few:

I actually wanted to initially load the free msde but got an error that said:

"A strong SA password is required for security reasons. Please use SAPWD switch to supply the same. Refer tp the readme for more details. Setup will now exit"

I downloaded msde 2000 release A. Is that the correct version for the old msde?

Can you give me any advice on this. Thanks!

Hi David,

SQL Express is newer than MSDE 2000 and offers some improved functionality, but if you want to use the older version...

I would go for MSDE 2000 SP4 since that is newer than Release A. The behavior you describe is by design since you must supply a strong password for the SA account when installing MSDE. The readme file that is available on the download page for MSDE explains how to install it and the correct usage of the SAPWD switch.

Instal Reporting Services on server with SharePoint Portal

Is this configuration supported and if it is, are there directions on the process to install these on the same server? The only instructions I can find are for sharepoint, not portal on the same server as Reporting Services.

SPS is the exact same instructions as WSS. In SQL 2005, this will be supported without any work post-setup.
