Hi,
We are attempting to install Reporting Services on a Win2K domain
controller. At the end of the installation, a message appears saying that
we need to activate the service manually. However, using the rsconfig
utility returns this message:
Failure starting the web service:
The Report Server Web service has not generated a public key. The service
may not have started successfully. Check the log files for more
information.
The logs don't appear to contain any clues. If I attempt to connect to
http://machine/Reports or http://machine/ReportServer then the following
message appears:
Cannot execute a program. The command being executed was
"c:\winnt\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322\csc.exe" /noconfig
@."c:\winnt\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322\Temporary ASP.NET
Files\reportserver\94eb9a55\49df36c9\jgljplnh.cmdline".
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
PeterDid you try rsactivate?

Yes, many times :-(
The message I receive is always:
Failure starting the web service:
The Report Server Web service has not generated a public key. The service
may not have started successfully. Check the log files for more
information.
The log files directory is full of hundreds of files, new ones appear every
few minutes. Perhaps the service is continuously attempting to start up and
failing? The log files don't seem to indicate any error though. Here is a
typical example:

Peter|||Look in the reportserver_<date>.log files. They should provide some clue as
to why the activation is failing.
