C.I.A ITI work around by desintalling IIS et re_install.
In fact i had installed a certificate via selfssl prior install reporting
services, as i have no option to remove this cerificate, the only way i
found, was to uninstall IIS

Install problem on Server 2003
I went to install Backup Exec 9.1 (same version that was on it before), it
failed when it tried to install MSDE instance for BKUP exec to use. Tried
installing just MSDE and it failed. I don't see much help in the install log
but the last few line are below:

Any help appreciated.

try looking for
RETURN VALUE 3
entries in the log.. the reported error(s) should better indicate the
problem..

install of express 200 advanced sp1 fails
Go to install and get just warnings(2-IIS and hardware);install goes on
then fails; look at log and it says my system doesn't meet minimum
hardware requirements.
Look at hardware requirements on readme and at MS and my system DOES
meet 'minumum reuquirements'; he only thing close is the 512 mb minimum
memory which is what my system has, 512mb memory.
1.7 P4, 30 gig of hard drive space,.net2.0,win2k with SP4,etc..
Anyone know what a workaround is or is this a 'bug'?
Take a looks at the setup logs (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG) for starters. See if there is additional information available there.

Install MSDE2000 failed and auto rollback
I use a windows xp with sp1 installed
Then, i install SQL server client tools, this ok!
Then, i install msde2000 , but it auto rollback during installing process
and it does show any error or message...
Even , i try to use sql2ksp3 to install, it also like this, what is the
problem?
Is it the winxp sp1 make this occurs? or other problems?

please add the
/L*v "C:\MsdeLog.Txt"
parameter to your command line call to the setup.exe boostrap installer...
this will enable verbose logging of the installation process (about 2mb text
file) you can inspect for
RETURN VALUE 3
entries... about 10/20 lines after or before each entry, some (sometime
cryptic) description of the problem will be listed...
just before running, please verify that File and Printer sharing is enabled
and the Server service is running..

Emilio, unfortunately this is a known issue. Here is a snippet from a log I posted previously (from an English log).
The log post reads:
Using PrevRegRootPath: Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1
GetServiceUserGroup failed for MSSQLSERVER, 5
Error Code: 0x80070534 (1332)
Windows Error Text: No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.
We are currently investigating this issue, but my guess is that after RTM, someone deleted the user groups that were created during install. SQL setup creates several user groups that are used during setup. It appears that SP1 is also looking to use these and they no longer exist. The user groups are named in this fashion: SQLServer2005MSSQLUser$<MachineName>$<InstanceName>
We are still looking into it and hope to have a solution soon.
Thanks,
Samuel Lester (MSFT)
Is a solution to this available?
Regards,
Eric Lapham
SQL server uses local group for ACLs. When the server is installed the groups are created and their SIDs are stored in the registry. Somewhere along the way, the SID had to change and the SIDs in the registry were not valid anymore. Try to delete the values for the following values in Setup registry key the instance hive [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\Setup]
The registry values are:
AGTGroup
SQLGroup
FTSGroup
ASGroup
Thanks,
Samuel Lester (MSFT)
i deleted the registry value for AGTGroup, SQLGroupF, TSGroup and ASGroup and the setup ended now correct for all product.
Thanks for the help.

Thank you; SP1 is installed. I found ASGroup in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\Setup]
The fours keys appeared to be recreated by the install of SP1. Regards, Eric Lapham
|||Correct, I should have mentioned that as well. These keys will get recreated correctly during the following SP1 install. Glad to hear it works for you!Samuel Lester (MSFT)|||
Samuel, I am getting ready to install SP1. Would you recommend deleting these values prior to any attempt to install SP1
Regards,
Jon
Nope, no need to do this. This error only occurs if someone has explicitly deleted user groups after installing RTM. We haven't seen much of this happening, but in case it has, this is how to clean it up.
Go ahead and install SP1.
Thanks,
Sam
Hello Samuel,
I experienced the same problem when installing SQL 2005 SP2.
I removed the registry values as you suggested; but I still got the failures.

Regards,
Emilio
|||

Samuel, I am getting ready to install SP1. Would you recommend deleting these values prior to any attempt to install SP1
Regards,

Nope, no need to do this. This error only occurs if someone has explicitly deleted user groups after installing RTM. We haven't seen much of this happening, but in case it has, this is how to clean it up.
Go ahead and install SP1.
Thanks,
Sam

I removed the registry values as you suggested; but I still got the failures.
Here are the partial logs :

Regards,
Emilio
|||

AGTGroup
SQLGroup
FTSGroup
ASGroup
Thanks,
Samuel Lester (MSFT)
i deleted the registry value forAGTGroup, SQLGroupF, TSGroup and ASGroup and the setup ended now correct for all product.
Thanks for the help.
Regards,
Emilio
|||

Install Error - Operating System Service Pack Level (SP1)
I am attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (from CD) on my IBM PC with XP Operating System. During set up, I get a error message (see below) telling me about a Service Pack requirement. When I click on the link provided in the error message, it does not lead to any service pack download.
I'm trying to read thru these forum posts, it seems that there is a service pack that I need to download after installing SQL Server 2005. But how can I install the pack after when I can't install SQL Server. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below is more information about the version of windows my PC has.
My PC: Windows Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp2.030422-1633:Service Pack 1)

Installation and Localisation
we have RS installed on a W2003 production Server without VS (no design) .
This version is a french version , we also install SP1 french version
Everything seems ok and we got a french version ( we are making call of
reports via URL in an aspx page) .
Times to times, and there is our problem, the french version become an
English version ("View Report" in the Toolbar instead of "Afficher le
rapport".)
If we re-install the SP1 we get the french version .
Please help , we have not been able to find any option about this problem
in RS config(s) files
PS: Designing and deployment are made on a developpement W2000 server With
RS and VS in French,
we never swap to English version on this server.
PhilippeThe report server natively supports 9 languages. This is true no matter
what language the install was done in. If your browser settings are set to
French then you will see French if they are set to another supported
language you will see that language.
Supported languages are: Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, English,
French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.

Then if The language supported by RS is browser dependant (we use IE6) , how
RS can change of language with the same browser, which is in French. (the
only language which appears in language option of general setting TAB of IE
properties)
It looks like , RS can not recognise the language and take by default
English language.

I make a new install of french RS SP1
As i explain in my first message , we have now "Afficher le Rapport" in the
Toolbar.
I add English (US) to languages of my IE6 browser and i move this language
in 1st position , i got "View Report" as expected
I move back French in 1st position , i have "Afficher le Rapoort" in
toolbar as Expected.
I try with German (Allemand) it also works properly "Bericht Anzeigen"
Then we can say that RS is working like you explain.
For how long ? (generally one day or two!!)
A solution will be appreciate, it seems to us that rendering to PDF is also
language dependant as we got somme problems with PDF (bad characters) when
language is English

after a reinstall but that it only works for a period of time. We determine
what languages are supported by the language folders we find under the bin
directory for both report manager and report server. Can you verify that
you have 8 language folders under these directories?

1) First go to /localmachine/reportserver and see if this is localized?
2) Restart IIS rather then reinstalling SP1, Does the problem go away?
Also, what is the OS language?
All this said, we have not been able to reproduce this problem and are not
sure what could cause the scenario you are describing. You may need to
contact PSS for better support on this issue.

Please check following on the Reporting Service machine:
Windows/temp folder has to have write permission for network service account
and
Windows/Microsoft.NET/framework/v1.1.4322/Temporary ASP .NET Files needs
