I keep getting this error when trying to install. "SQL Server is terminating due to 'stop' request from Service Control Manager." Any ideas how to fix it?

Install path SQL Enterprise Manager

Hi,

We want to install SQL Enterprise Manager on a seperate server. Our provider for this server requires us to install SQL EM on a non-default drive/path, d:\programs. How can I achieve this?

Run the setup.bat file from the SQL Server installation CD, and select Install Client components, and you can specify where you want the programs installed.|||

Looks like this works for 2005. However we want to use 2000. My mistake, should have mentioned this.

We already looked quite extensively on the CD but could not find any clues for resolving this. Does anyone have an idea?

It could be that Enterprise Manager 2000 is not meant to be installed seperately from SQL Server 2000. Can anyone say anything about this?

We try to install Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 and get installation failed without any error. It simply refers to the log file. I have posted below the last 40 lines of this huge log file. The information in there are not vary help full since it refers to error codes that nobody seem to be able to explain. Now this is happening on 3 brand new dell computers running XP Pro. I would be happy for any assistance to either explain the error coded (if any MS guy is monitoring this) or maybe someone had a similar problem and could let me know some options on what I could try to get this resolved and my program installed.

Install Help

Hello:
I am new to Reporting Services and I am having a problem displayingReporting Manager. I am running Win 2003 with IIS 6 and SQL Svr2000 SP3. VS 2003 has been installed and the developmentenvironment works fine.
I cannot get Report Manager to work I try to access the page and I get the following error:

The request failed with HTTP Status 400: Bad Request
Their is a link for Home but when I click on it I get the same message.
When I try to access Report Server using //servername/reportmanager, Iget prompted for a user name and password. I put in thecredentials for a local admin and it brings me to a page that has the servername/reportserver. At the bottom is some versioninformation and that's all there is.
I have researched and tried a variety a solutions like running reactivate and rsconfig to no avail.
IIS is set up with a reports website and 2 virtual dorectories, onepointing to the appropriate folder in the MSSQL folder for reportmanager and report server.
I'm out of idea. If anyone can provide some ways I can troubleshoot, I would appreciate it

Things have changed since originally asking the question over a year ago.

A new install of SQL Server Management Studio Express Setup on XP Pro SP 2 resulted in the following dialog box:

Setup is missing prerequisites:
-MSXML6

OK

After downloading and installing MSXML6, SSMS Express installed without any further problems. SQL Server 2005 Express does not have to be installed before or after installing SSMS Express.

I only have problem with SSMSE. of course, a workaround would be to use original MSXML6 instead, then install KB925673 after SSMSE. but will MS update SSMSE installer?

I removed the MSXML 6.0 with KB925673 from my computer, downloaded the MSXML 6.0 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=993c0bcf-3bcf-4009-be21-27e85e1857b1&DisplayLang=en but the SSMSEE still throws the same error "Setup is missing pre-requisites MSXML6".

The dowloaded MSXML 6.0 version doesn't say KB925673.

Please help.

Yes, just run the install. I forget the exact option name but it is there.

Zach|||during the install there is an option to install the server or install the
utilities. this is one of the first screens.
select the button for installing utilities.

Is it possible to install the enterprise manager and tools on the 64 bit
version of sql server, running on windows 2003 server?

hence why MS removed the client tools from the install in the first place.

install dtsrun utility

Hello everybody,

I need to install the dtsrun util on a client who needs to call a dts package. I want to do this without enterprise manager.
We had no problem in the past withWin NT 4 client. Right now, I try to
install this dtsrun utility on a Win2k pro client and when I do regsvr32
dtsffile.dll
The instructions are explained on redist.txt on the sql server CD rom.

I receive each time the message that I can't register the dll.

Can anyone point me in some direction ?

this is the information I found :

INSTALLATION NOTES FOR DATA TRANSFORMATION SERVICES (DTS)

The following files must be registered using the regsvr32.exe utility:
dtsffile.dll
dtspkg.dll
dtspump.dll

Example: regsvr32 80\Tools\Binn\dtsffile.dll

The sqlunirl.dll file should reside in the system folder (i.e.,
\winnt\system32 or \windows\system).in the Text Box type: regsvr32 d:\YourDir\YourFile

where "d:\YourDir\YourFile" is the full path to the dll's.

Seems like you may have left out the c:\pf\MSQLS\80\...\file.dll

Hope this may help...

To unregister it, type in the text box: regsvr32 /u d:\YourDir\YourFile

NOTE: The full path of the dll must be enclosed as regsvr32 "c:\PF\MSLS\80\your.dll" to succeed.|||Also this file may be used to register dll's by right clicking with the shift key

Analyzer pointer in All Programs menu. I guess, MSDE does
not have these editors.

2) Where can i read more stuffs related to MSDE ver A
3) I am unable to connect to MSDE ver A from another
machine through Client tools.
4) How do i install my SQL scripts to create database,
tables, procedures etc

AFAIK MSDE comes without any tools - by design the client
application is responsible for creating the table etc.
(e.g. M$ Access in an ADP-project).
but there exists some freeware tools which can act as a
replacement for the enterprise manager, e.g. DbaMgr2k
which you can find at http://www.asql.biz/DbaMgr.shtm

actually, AFAIK, there are no related stuffs to read about MSDE, as it is an
edition of SQL Server 2000, so you can have a look at SQL Server related
stuffs... you have to be aware of MSDE limitations you can inspect at

eventual feature you are reading about is available for MSDE too, you can
take advantage of existing SQL Server doumentation...

MSDE installs by default disabling network protocols to protect the server
from remote malicious attacks, so only local connections are enabled... to
change this behaviour at install time, you have to provide the
DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0
parameter to the setup.exe boostrapper installer, or, if already installed,
you have to run the Server Network Utility (svrnetcn.exe) to enable the
desired network protocol..

if you do have the DDL Transact-SQL scripts, you can execute them via
oSql.exe (have a look at the provided link for further info about oSql.exe),
my project too provides executing Transact-SQL scripts features too as quite

Installation

When trying to install Reporting Services 2000 (Report Manager's server
components) on a Windows Server, the installation does not completely finish.
I use the setup in the first folder on the CD (the default option from
Add/Remove Programs.
Goes through the first part and tells me that installation is complete.
Goes to the screen that tells me I do not have Visual Studio installed on
that box (this is ok because this server is only going to house server
capabilities).
Then it goes to the next installation screen which tell me that installation
may take a few minutes. This screen completes and the message comes up that
I am finished.
The problem is that I never get to the part of the installation that asks
me about security, server\client part installation, etc.
If i try to get to the server's report server, it is not there.
In the start menu, the only shortcut made for RS is books online.
What is being done differently from this installation than past installations?Make sure when you get to the part that shows which things are being
installed that the Server Components are on the list. In prior installs
I know that if the Default WebSite was removed or shut off in IIS then
I wasn't even given the option of installing the Server Components.
If the Server Components are not installed then you won't see the
Report Manager or anything else after the install completes.
